This category includes tests very similar to those a potential driver must take at the Department of Motor Vehicles to acquire a Commercial Learner Permit (CLP). Anyone who obtains a CLP after February 7, 2022, must complete Theory Training as outlined in C.F.R. Title 49, Part 380. This training is conducted in conjunction with SCDE School Bus Driver Training Classroom Instruction. Candidates must complete the SCDE School Bus Driver Classroom Training as well as the accompanying Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) which follows SCDE Classroom instruction.
Candidates must demonstrate the understanding of the course material by reaching a minimum score of 80 on each of the following tests:

Candidates may take each test as often as needed to reach a passing score and are encouraged to take the tests multiple times until they are consistently scoring above 80. This category will also feature videos designed to supplement hands-on training related to vehicle pre-trip inspections and basic control skills exercises.
